Premaster's programme

Students with a Bachelor’s degree other than Human Movement Sciences will usually have to follow a premaster’s programme in order to be admitted to the Master’s programme. The premaster’s programme consists of a number of courses from the Bachelor’s programme HMS. Depending on the candidate’s previous education and the chosen specialization, the programme will contain courses in research methods, mathematics and biomechanics. The programme usually sums up to 30-39 EC.

Students with a WO-bachelor's degree in Human Movement Sciences (either from VU university or the RUG), Health Sciences with a major Human Movement Sciences (UM), or Medical Sciences with a major Human Movement Sciences (Radboud Universiteit) have direct access to the Master's programme. They don't have to follow a premaster's programme.

Students with another WO-bachelor's degree usually have to follow a subset of the premaster's programme: Depending on their previous education, they may not have to follow specific courses in research methods, mathematics and/or statistics.

Students with a HBO-bachelor's degree in Movement Technology with a science minor have a reduced premaster's programme, because they don't have to attend the bachelor courses WiskundeVerwerken van digitale signalen, and Meten van fysische grootheden.

Students with another HBO-bachelor's degree relevant for Human Movement Sciences have to follow the complete premaster's programme for the chosen specialization.

Students with a HBO-bachelor's degree irrelevant to Human Movement Sciences have to follow a maximum of three additional Bachelor's courses on top of the complete premaster's programme for the chosen specialization, to compensate for their deficiencies (Psychology, Anatomy, and/or Physiology). These additonal courses will cost E900,- each.

The premaster's programme for HBO-students with a degree relevant for HMS (Fysiotherapie, Bewegingstechnologie, ALO) will contain the following courses:

Wiskunde (9 EC)
Spierfysiologie (6 EC)
Vewerken van digitale signalen (6 EC)
Meten van Fysische Grootheden (6 EC)
Statistiek (6 EC)

If you are registered as a premaster student the tuition fee for the premaster's programme will be E1,771. You can only be registered for the premaster's programme for one year! If you are considering to enroll in de research master after you completed your premaster's programme, you will have to follow the course Biomechanica in addition to the regular premaster's programme. The costs for this additional course will be E900,-.

If your main focus is on sport psychology, you will follow a slightly different programme:

Wiskunde (9 EC)
Sportpsychologie
Spierfysiologie (6 EC)
Vewerken van digitale signalen (6 EC) or Meten met Vragenlijsten en (sport)motorische tests (3 EC)
Statistiek (6 EC)

Please note that you have to apply before June 1, 2012!

Follow premaster's courses in advance!
Within several HBO-bachelor's programmes it is possible to follow a large part of the premaster's programme HMS and use these courses for the HBO-bachelor's programme. The courses can be followed directly at the VU or digitally using the “schakelprogramma” from the Digitale Universiteit (DU, http://demo.schakelbw.nl). If you finish the complete DU schakelprogramma (27 ECTS) before starting the premaster's programme, your premaster's programme can be completed within the first semester.

Students who finished the complete DU “schakelprogramma” and students who followed a science minor at AMPO or Movement Technology will not have to do the HBO-assessment. If the science minor consists of courses relevant for Human Movement Sciences, your premaster's programme might be smaller. If you're planning on following a science minor or have already done so, and you want to know more about the consequences for your premaster's programme, contact the study advisor Human Movement Sciences.
